Shane flips to lead 4 laps, Evan breaks to win Karting

(St. Louis, MO - July 18th, 2005) -- After not running in the karts for over a month we were hoping to get some good practice in on Saturday but, instead all we did was 2 sessions and rain drenched us. We were heading into SLKA points championship race #7 with little seat time in the last month. Things did not start off good. In qualifying Evan set fast time and Shane was second but, unfortunately coming to the checkered flag in qualify Shane would get his left side tires into the grass. This is the fastest part on the track and getting the tires in the grass caused them to spin which sucked him off the track. On the side of the track there is a few hay barrels and ditch which was full of water and when Shane went threw all the hay and hit the ditch as he was sent into 2 sideways flips and while in the air hit a tree throwing him out of the kart. He was luckily able to walk away with only a few swore muscles and a scratch. We immediately went to work putting the kart back together as we bent just about everything from a rear axle, 2 tie rods, a spindle, steering shaft, brake rotor, brake peddle, front bumper, front bumper mounts, a micron-3, sprocket, sprocket hub, and many other things. In the meantime Evan was on the pole for the heat race he had led every lap but, on the last lap he was forced to pull off due to a cracked header.

The weekend was starting to turn into a not so good one as Evan and Shane would
have to start dead last in the feature. We got Shane's kart put back together 3 min before the final race. As soon as the green flag dropped Shane had drove past 2 karts and going into the 2nd corner 2 karts touched causing them to spin and give him the lead on the first lap. He would lead 4 or 5 laps but, the motor started to cut out and die on him coming off of every corner. As soon as this happened Evan quickly caught up with him. Shane would try and stay on the track for the next few laps but, eventually pulled off because he was so far off the pace. Evan would go on to win his 2nd race this season. We were really just happy Shane's chassis wasn't bent and whatever this problem is we are now having will be fixed for next weekends race. Look for both brothers to be back on track for next weekends race.
