Shane qualifies 40th, hits wall in consi after 15th to 11th charge in 1st lap at The Rock Island Grand Prix

(St. Louis, MO - September 5th, 2005) -- We made the long trip to Rock Island, IL for the most popular karting event in America The Rock Island Grand Prix. The day started off pretty good as the first practice session we were able to turn some pretty good lap times for our first time on this high-speed street course. However, we made a few changes for the 2nd practice session and would not be able to run with the changes because as we were pulling out of the starting grid the kart just died on us and Shane was forced to pull off. We came in fixed the kart and found our problem. Unfortunately, we were heading into qualifying with 5 minutes of track time ever on the track. We actually had a pretty fast kart and Shane said the kart was a ton faster than what the lap times showed due to some slower karts in front of him. He qualified 40th of 55 karts which did not put us in a good position. The qualifying position forced us to a Consi (Last Chance Qualifier) and we were starting 15th in order to make the 20 lap main event we would have to finish 5th. On the start of the Consi Shane would pass 4 karts in the first lap and move up to 11th. Unfortunately, while trailing right on the back bumper of another PG Racing karter Devon Nichols Shane would hit a bump in turn 4 and knock him way up toward the outside wall. He hit the wall with his left rear tire and then he was sucked into the barriers and sent into a 360 he then hit a bunch of hay barrels and disintegrated them with the front of his kart while coming back around. This would bend a bunch of parts on the front end forcing Shane to yet another DNF this season.

We will be back next year to compete in the 2006 Rock Island Grand Prix and hope for some better luck. This weekend we will be heading to I-55 Raceway Saturday September 10th for there regular show and then to Tri-City Speedway Sunday 11th for there Season Championships with NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace racing his Impressive Modified. Our next big karting event will be held on Nov 11th-13th at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, NV. This special event is another road race called the Super Karts USA Super Nationals and we will hope for a better result than we had at this past weeks road race.
