(St. Louis, MO - October 14th, 2005) -- This weekend was pretty rough on Walters Motorsports both in karting and Dirt Racing. In the SLKA Race # 10 Kart race things were bad from the start. We had broke someone on Shane's Kart while unloading it for the first practice session. We ended up getting it fixed but, the kart handled really different to him and he slowly had to get used to it. As a result he qualified a poor 3rd as Rocketman Evan took the pole. In the pre-final, we would finish just how we started Evan 1st, Miles 2nd, and Shane 3rd. However, Shane had cut his lap times way down by the end of the run and was setting the feature race up to be a show. In the feature, Evan was on the pole and after a while lost the lead to Sam Miles. Evan and Miles would battle hard for many laps as Shane again started making his kart faster and faster. Shane worked on getting around Evan for a few laps when he finally went for it. He held onto 2nd place for only a lap or two when Evan was able to get around him again. While Shane and Evan were making all these passes Miles was slowly driving away since the Walters brothers were slowing each other down. On the last lap Evan had caught back up with Miles and made an attempt to grab the lead but, failed after that Shane saw an opportunity to grab 2nd away from Evan and took it. After this Miles would again pull away and force the Walters Brothers to a 2nd and 3rd place finish.
All year long Shane has been in the lead for the points championship. However, with only one points race to go he has fallen back to 2nd in points by only 5 points. Evan had a shot at winning the championship going into this race but, after his 3rd place finish he will most likely finish 3rd in points. Sam Miles is the current points leader but, hopefully Walters Motorsports will be able to take the top spot back in the final race of the season. We look for a lot of people to come watch this race as the points race is so close with only one final race to go.
