(St. Louis, MO - February 5th, 2006) -- Walters Motorsports went into the SLKA Awards banquet knowing they would come home with 2 awards but was very surprised to receive a third award. During the entire SLKA racing season Walters Motorsports battled each and every weekend with some of the toughest completiton around. Shane Walters was able to pick up the 2005 SLKA TaG Championship after a very tough battle all year long with Sam Miles. The battle came down to the last lap of the final race. We were able to pick up that final event win which gave us the 2005 Championship. Evan Also brought home the 2005 3rd place championship race award. Both team members where very happy with there accomplishments during the 2005 racing season.

We had no idea we would leave the banquet with a third award. As you may have known, during the middle of the season during a qualifying run Shane Walters would run his left side tires off the track on the front straight away. Since is rained hard the night before the grass was wet. As a result he was pulled hard left off the track and into a wet ditch. the kart dig into the ground and began to summersault 4 times along the side of the track until a tree stopped the wild kart. The kart hit the tree throwing Shane from the kart. The kart was very badly damaged but luckily we did not bend the chassis badly. For the next 8, yes that is correct 8 hours we worked non stop to fix just about every part on the kart. We were able to get it done about 1 minute before the start of the TaG Jr. Feature race. We would start dead last and work our way to the lead in the first corner. Unfortunately, we had a fuel problem which caused us to loose major power and by the end of the race we were in third.

As a result of this horrible incident we picked up the 2005 3rd Place Worst wreck of the year award. Many of the same people who helped us put the kart back together and were worried for our driver just after the event were able to get some joy out of it. They cheered as he walked up on stage to receive the award. We were very happy with the outcome of the 2005 season and we look forward to the 2006 season.
