Weekend Report: Fayette County Speedway Brownstown, IL (St. Louis, MO - June 18th, 2006) -- Walters Motorsports took the past two weekends of racing off to build up some money and get the car completely ready and up to pull power. Last month the team blew out the rear gear and pulled the rear end housing in half. This caused a lot of long hours at the shop over the past few weeks. They were able to get the car ready for this past weekend of racing which turned out to be a good one. On Friday Night the team headed out to Fayette County Speedway in Brownstown, IL for the special show featuring UMP Sportsman for $400 to win. Shane missed hot laps, he showed up a little late to the track as a result of poor judgment on how long it would take to make the trip (1 Hour and 30 Minutes). He would start on the pole for the heat race. However, on the lap coming to the green he noticed his brakes were fading again. He would try to load the clutch for the start but could not. As a result he had a very bad start and 2 cars including UMP Modified driver Steve Maisel pulled away from him going into the first corner. Shane would battle hard to try and catch the top two cars but with little brakes he had no shot. He would finish in the 3rd position. In the feature, they figured out what the brake problem was. It was a leaking master cylinder. They fixed it the best they could. They also made a few major chassis adjustments on the rear end of the race car for the dry slick track they were about to face. Shane would start in the 6th position. On the start we would jump up to 5th. He would spend the entire race trying to get around Brandon Hogenson who currently sits third in National UMP Point Standings. With two laps to go Shane would try the highside of the track to try and get a run on him. However, he would jump the cushion and get into the marbles. The car would not turn at all and the car directly behind him would drive under him to take the 5th spot away. Shane would go on to finish in the 6th position. This was his best finish ever in the dirt car topping his 7th place finish from the previous week. Walters Motorsports continues to get better every week and they are currently looking for consistent top 5 finishes. The team had plans to head to I-55 Raceway the next day. However, rain would stop those plans. Saturday a big storm hit the track which forced them to call the race on a count of rain. This would be the 6th rain out of the season for the team. Next weekend the team plans to put their wheels back on the DIRT. Shane will head to Fayette County Speedway this Friday. He might head to I-55 Raceway on Saturday but that is not likely. Then, for sure he will head to Tri-City Speedway on Sunday for the Mid-Season Championships. For more information on the above race tracks including driving directions.
