Race Report: I-55 Raceway UMP Summer Nationals July 1st (St. Louis, MO - July 2nd, 2006) -- Walters Motorsports has had some great runs the past few weeks and they were very excited to hit the track again the following week. However, once again I-55 Raceway (A.K.A No Luck Raceway) bit the team yet again. Shane started on the pole in his heat race. He was able to lead for the first 2 or 3 laps. Jimmy Cummins stuck his nose under Shane and Shane was able to hold him off on the top. However, after a few laps Cummins moved to the top and they raced side by side for 1 or 2 laps. Jimmy was able to get around him to take the lead. Shane would hold off the rest of the field and finish in the 2nd position. This gave him a spot in the dash where he finished 7th. Shane started 7th in the feature event. He was running a great race running with some of the top Sportsman drivers in the country. However, about half way through the race on a restart while running in the 6th position a driver would run right into the back of Shane and push him into the corner. He would then push up the race track and push him in his left rear. This would send Shane in a spin heading down the race track. Two other cars at full speed would smash the left front and send him in another 180 spin going the opposite direction. Shane would be forced to yet another DNF at I-55 Raceway. The car was very messed up. The whole front end was pushed over a full foot. the engine was also twisted. Just about every bolt on part was broken including shocks, tie rods, headers, and every steering component. Shane said it was the hardest hit he has ever taken in a race car or go kart including the flips he had in both .Walters Motorsports is going to park this car until wintertime. In the meantime they are going to have a brand new car built by Impressive Race Cars. The plan is to get the totally new car running by September 17th as Tri-City Speedway is hosting the 1st Annual Sportsman Nationals for $1,500 to win. Shane might also head to I-55 Raceway October 7th for the Fall Sportsman Nationals which has a possible $7,500 to win race. During the winter they are going to put a new front stub on the bent car and get it ready for 2007. They will have 2 race ready race cars for the 2007 season and will be in a quest for a top 10 in the National UMP Sportsman Point Race. Next Weekend the team will head to Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC for the 3rd round of the Snap-On Stars of Karting Series. Over the next few weeks stay tuned to the 2006 schedules. With the DIRT racing put on a hold we will add many new karting events local and national to the schedules. For more information on the above race tracks including driving directions.
